A MESSAGE FROM BRIAN PRICE Banner 2023

      Hello Team OLS,

I want to talk to you about the inverted pyramid.  This upside-down pyramid illustrates how I think about my role, our company and who we support.
      Snag_ae46bd0
*Corporate Support = Finance, Human Resources, IT, Marketing, M&A, Operations, Product & Sales

You will notice the inverted pyramid puts the focus on the troops instead of the General. Home Depot founders, Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank, made this model famous. Their motto was, “Put customers and associates first, and the rest will take care of itself”.

The inverted pyramid requires humility (no room for egos) and encourages us to embrace a culture of Empowerment and Trust (which are also two of our core values in FORTITUDE).

This model also challenges EACH of us (regardless of the job we hold) to answer:

      • What have you done to help a customer in our stores today?
      • What have done to sell a product, or provide value, to our customers?
      • What have you done to bring a customer into our stores?
      • What have you done to make a vendor want to partner with our company?

In the inverted pyramid, each of us is empowered to roll up our sleeves and help our stores create happy and loyal customers. What I call Winning. If you don’t understand how you, in your position, can make an impact – please reach out to me, your manager or any member of the leadership team and we will figure this out together.

We are nearing the end of our busy selling season. It is time for each of us to do whatever we can to support our customers - helping them finish 2024 strong.

      BrianP

Health Savings Account (HSA): When you are enrolled in a Qualified High Deductible Health Plan (QHDHP) such as the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota $4000 – 100% Aware HSA Plan and meet the eligibility requirements, the IRS allows you to open and contribute to an HSA Account.

What is a Health Savings Account (HSA)? An HSA is a tax-sheltered bank account that you own to pay for eligible health care expenses for you and/or your eligible dependents for current or future healthcare expenses. The easiest way to use your HSA dollars is by using your HSA Debit Card at the time you incur an eligible expense.

The Health Savings Account (HSA) is yours to keep, even if you change jobs or medical plans. There is no “use it or lose it” rule; your balance carries over year to year.

Plus, you get extra tax advantages with an HSA because:

      • Money you deposit into an HSA is exempt from federal income taxes.
      • Interest in your account grows tax free.
      • You don’t pay income taxes on withdrawals used to pay for eligible health expenses. (If you withdraw funds for non-eligible expenses, taxes and penalties will apply).
      • You also have a choice of investment options which earn competitive interest rates, so your unused funds grow over time.

      2024 HSA Contributions

You are able to contribute to your Health Savings Account on a pre-tax basis through payroll deductions up to the IRS statutory maximums. The IRS has established the following maximum HSA contributions for the 2024 tax year:

      • $4,150 Individual
      • $8,300 Family
      • If you are age 55 and over, you may contribute an extra $1,000 catch up contribution

finanzas Banner 2023 (2)Angie RiceWelcome Angie Rice, Director of Inventory Management: We are pleased to introduce Angie Rice, the new Director of Inventory Management. Angie brings 13 years of experience in inventory management and team leadership from her time at Lowe's Home Improvement, where she spent four years focusing on Lawn & Garden, Live Nursery, and Hardscapes.

The Product team, under Angie's leadership, will concentrate on supporting stores and sales teams with inventory, category, and vendor management. Angie is excited to connect with everyone and share some of the initiatives the team will be working on in both the short and long term.

So far, Angie has had the opportunity to visit 10 stores to gather insights on operations and how her team can provide support. If she hasn't visited your store yet, she will be there soon! Here's a quick look at areas of opportunity she's identified:

      Short-Term Opportunities:

      • Slow Moving Inventory Cleanup: The initiative to address slow, aged inventory is well underway. Please encourage your customers to take advantage of the great deals available as we work to clear these products and make room for more in-demand items.
      • Early Buys for 2025: By cleaning up slow movers, we can free up cash to capitalize on the discounts vendors offer for pre-season buys. The more we can clear out, the more opportunities we’ll have. Let’s aim to go bigger and earlier for spring, ensuring our customers see that we’re ready for the season!
      • Import Product Strategy: We’ve had positive results with our import products, but we lacked a solid plan for proactive replenishment, which has left gaps in our inventory. We are developing a comprehensive strategy that will be ready in the next two months, positioning us for an even stronger 2025.

      Long-Term Opportunities:

      • NetSuite Setup: The NetSuite system has tremendous potential once the necessary infrastructure is established. We have work ahead of us to ensure that everyone can fully benefit from its capabilities.
      • Location Inventory Management Reporting: With the NetSuite infrastructure in place, we will be able to generate user-friendly reports to help manage vendor performance, inventory turnover, and profitability. These insights will be shared with you regularly to support your efforts.
      • Centralized Inventory Support and Management: Our Product team will collaborate directly with key vendors to negotiate costs, develop forecasts, and create a comprehensive inventory strategy. This centralized approach will ensure that stores and customers receive the right products at the right times. We will also focus on enhancing documented processes for cycle counts, item additions, and overall inventory productivity and profitability.

Angie is gaining valuable insights with each store visit and is beginning to document all the opportunities her team can address. If you don’t see your concerns reflected in the list above, please reach out to her to share your thoughts as they develop the comprehensive plan. She is eager to hear how the team can provide support and is looking forward to a strong finish in 2024 and exciting plans for 2025!

Exciting Announcement: Wholesale Early Buy Program Launch: We are soft launching a Wholesale Early Buy Program in the East! This initiative is designed to offer customer fantastic savings and flexibility.
